Pancake Day is nearly upon us, and Londoners will be out in their shroves to celebrate on Tuesday 13th February.
Here are 5 places to visit for a flippin’ good Pancake Day.
Where The Pancakes Are
This suitably named pancake bar, situated on Southwark Bridge Road, is offering a special Shrove Tuesday menu which is split between sweet and savoury.
Customers can opt to top their pancakes with bacon or banana, smoked salmon or cinnamon - there's a wealth of combos. Of course, there are more traditional toppings like lemon, chocolate spread or sugar to choose from too.
Vegan and wheat/dairy-free batters are also available, and the bar’s own pancake mix can be purchased in store, so you can have a go at recreating these at home.
Location: 85a Southwark Bridge Road
My Old Dutch
Boasting 3 pancake houses in Chelsea, Holborn and Kensington, My Old Dutch has established an enviable reputation since its first branch opened in 1958.
My Old Dutch offers delightfully sweet fillings and some more rather unique savoury pancakes, such as lamb stew, chicken curry and chilli con carne.
And there’s more to the menu than just pancakes. Salads, traditional Dutch starters and waffles are available, while there’s another chance to treat your sweet tooth with its wide range of desserts.
My Old Dutch will operate on a first come, first served basis during Pancake Day, so get down early so you don't miss out.
Enjoy an alcoholic twist on the homemade pancake this Shrove Tuesday.
To celebrate, The Long Bar at Sanderson Hotel is offering its Flip it, Drink it cocktail – a pancake and blueberry flavoured drink with lemon, maple syrup and a dash of mastika liqueur.
The drink is topped off with whipped cream and costs £14.
Location: 50 Berners Street
Queen of Hoxton
Feast on pancakes while taking in views of the London skyline at the Queen of Hoxton’s 'Pancake Day on the Rooftop' event.
From 1pm to 8pm the bar will be serving up Espresso Martini pancakes which can be taken up to the venue’s Moroccan Medina rooftop, which features a warming fire pit and a cosy Wigwam.
A DIY station with sauces, fruits and other goodies is available for those who want to make their own.
Location: 1 Curtain Road
La Petite Bretagne
Enjoy authentic French crepes without hopping onto the Eurostar.
Winner of Time Out’s Love London award in 2016, La Petite Bretagne offers healthy, savoury crepes to delight your taste buds or a range of delicious sweet crepes if you’re feeling a little naughty.
Having started life on London’s markets, the brand has quickly grown and opened 2 restaurants; the first in Hammersmith and a new site in Dalston.
And to celebrate the opening of the Dalston restaurant, La Petite Bretagne is offering free crepe vouchers on its website.
