Late night London: Enjoy an exhibition after dark

Take advantage of our 24-hour city by enjoying an exhibition after the sun goes down at some of London's best museums and galleries.

British Museum

Housing hundreds of fascinating artefacts, The British Museum is open until 8.30pm every Friday.

There are lectures, debates, performances and film screenings, while the Great Court Restaurant is also open late.

Tate Modern

The Tate Modern boasts a huge collection of international modern art dating from 1900, including work by Matisse, Picasso, Warhol and Lichtenstein.

Its exhibitions are open late until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, while the Tate Modern Restaurant also stays open late for dinner.

Entry is free, while admission is charged for special exhibitons. This season’s special exhibitions include the work of American art icon Georgia O’Keeffe and Indian accountant-turned-artist Bhupen Khakhar.

Natural History Museum

The iconic T-Rex skeleton isn’t the only reason to sink your teeth into this museum, which opens until 10.30pm on the last Friday of the month.

Visitors can explore exhibitions and have a chat and a drink with experts during the monthly ‘Lates’.

National Gallery

Located in Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery opens until 9pm on Fridays.

These special evenings include guided tours and talks, with late opening in the bar and the National Café.

The Victoria and Albert Museum is home to more than 2.3 million objects spanning 5,000 years.

Selected galleries are open until 10pm on Fridays, with themed Friday Late events on the last Friday of the month. The V&A cafe is also open until 9.30pm on Fridays.
