Supermarket meal deals might seem like a good idea at the time, but all that spending can add up rather quickly.

Give our low-cost lunches a try for a tasty pack-up which won't break the bank.

Greek salad

Chop and combine cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, black olives and feta cheese with olive oil for a simple, fresh taste of Greece at lunchtime.

Pasta salad

Pasta salad is an easy and inexpensive lunch option as you'll probably already have the main component in your cupboard.

Boil the pasta and allow it to cool before mixing with salads - tomatoes, peppers and rocket all work well - and adding your choice of meat or cheese.

Cured meats such as proscuitto and chorizo work well, or crumble in feta cheese.

Bagels

Bored of bog-standard bread? Try taking a bagel to work instead. Fill with ham and salad or, for a more extravagant treat, fill with smoked salmon and cream cheese.

Pitta pockets

Toast yours at lunchtime and then fill it, or pre-stuff it with your filling of choice - houmous and salad works well.

Wraps

Use up your leftovers in a wrap for lunch the next day, or cook a special filling - these hot cumin lamb wraps from BBC Good Food will feel like a real lunchtime treat.
