Today is World Vegetarian Day - so treat your taste buds to one of these classic vegetarian meals and snacks.

Hummus and pitta

A classic and simple snack - try this recipe from Deliciously Ella which combines paprika, turmeric, cumin and chilli to create hummus with a touch of spice.

Puff pastry tart

This versatile dish can be served either as a sweet or savoury meal.

If you have a sweet tooth, check out this blueberry tart recipe from Jus-Rol, or if you’re looking for something savoury then try their pesto and roasted vegetable recipe.

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni

This pasta dish is simple, inexpensive and delicious, making it a good choice for a family dinner.

This recipe from Budget Bytes replaces the cannelloni tubes with fettuccine, cutting preparation time without compromising on flavour.

Stuffed mushrooms

These are an ideal nibble to serve at a party and can be stuffed with a variety of fillings.

Stuff them with blue cheese by using this BBC recipe or try this recipe for a garlic and cheese stuffing.

Sweet potato fries

Sweet potato fries are a firm favourite, and now appear on most restaurant menus alongside their white potato equivalent.

Make your own by following this helpful step-by-step guide from Jamie Oliver
