After a long day at work, pasta is an ideal hearty evening meal which involves minimal preparation time.

Take your inspiration from our top choices for quick and easy dishes.

Macaroni and Cheese

A classic food partnership, macaroni and cheese is a dish which is simple to prepare, quick to cook and - most importantly - delicious.

This recipe from the Food Network uses cheddar cheese and bacon to create the 'ultimate' bacon macaroni cheese, while Jamie Oliver has a crunchy topping on his killer mac 'n' cheese.

Spicy tomato penne

The easiest of pasta meals to create, you'll probably have everything you need for this one in your cupboard already - a tin of chopped tomatoes, chilli (lazy chilli will fit the bill), garlic and penne pasta.

Try this BBC recipe, which adds mozzarella, parmesan and tabasco sauce.

Farfalle arrabbiata

Farfalle derives from the Italian word 'farfalla', which translates as 'butterfly' - hence its winged, ribbon appearance.

Arrabbiata translates directly from Italian to English as 'angry' - which is apt for a dish which is full of rich flavours and spices.

Jamie Oliver has his own take on this traditional pasta dish, with a recipe full of chilli.

Spaghetti carbonara

A staple of many restaurant menus, spaghetti carbonara is surprisingly simple to make at home.

Gino D'Acampo has created an authentic carbonara recipe using diced pancetta, or follow this recipe by Antonio Carluccio, one of the Two Greedy Italians and founder of Carluccio's restaurants.

Spaghetti bolognese

This is another firm favourite which is easy to make at home.

For a straightforward dish with plenty of flavour, follow Tesco Real Food's simple spaghetti bolognese recipe.

Alternatively, save yourself time by slow cooking a sauce using this recipe - meaning you can come in from work, boil some pasta and dinner will be ready to go.
