There’s no such thing as a quiet month in London, and with a brand New Year comes a host of new attractions and exhibitions to check out.
Here are 5 events taking place in the capital which will help you beat those January blues.
New Year's Day Parade
London always kicks the New Year off in spectacular fashion with its annual parade and the 2019 event looks set to be one of the biggest yet.
Starting from Piccadilly at 12 noon on New Year’s Day, the parade is set to feature more than 10,000 performers from across the UK, Europe and the US.
The parade then moves through Piccadilly Circus and on to Pall Mall, where spectators can visit a street food village, before heading to Trafalgar Square and finishing at Parliament Square.

London Short Film Festival
The annual London Short Film Festival returns to the capital this January, offering fans of independent cinema the opportunity to discover some of the industry’s finest emerging talent.
Taking place from Friday 11th to Sunday 20th January, the festival is the first significant event in the UK film calendar and will showcase more than 500 independent films from both the UK and around the world.
Various workshops and talks are also taking place across the 9-day festival, bringing together new and established filmmakers to discuss both cultural and industry trends.
London Art Fair
Featuring more than 100 galleries of contemporary artwork, the London Art Fair at the Business Design Centre is a must-see for both art-lovers and collectors.
The annual fair takes place from Wednesday 16th to Sunday 20th January and includes a range of insightful talks reviewing the current market, as well as photography exhibitions and a chance to talk to the many artists whose work is on display.
Welcome to The Forest
Waltham Forest will be the first-ever London Borough of Culture in 2019 and to celebrate, the borough has scheduled numerous events throughout the year.
Welcome to the Forest is the first of those events and will see Waltham Forest Town Hall host a unique visual show from 11th to 13th January, with accompanying soundtracks from the borough’s diverse range of musical talents.
As part of the spectacle, Forest Road will be transformed into a neon-lit winter carnival by locally-based festival curators Continental Drifts.
Hogwarts in the Snow
Iconic sets from the Harry Potter franchise have been given a festive makeover as visitors to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour get the chance to experience the wizarding world during the Christmas period.
The Great Hall will be staged as if it was the Yule Ball from the 4th movie, with Christmas trees lining the long dining tables and snow throughout – a magical experience not to be missed by any Potter fan.
Visitors have until Sunday 27th January to enjoy this wizarding winter wonderland.
